goodbye Chesapeake Bay...........from P

It was a strange sight as we sailed closer to Havre de Grace, MD. There was no more bay in front of us. The glimmering expanse that gives us our sense of home was quickly dissapearing into a series of shallow marshy areas, and a choice of three rivers should you wish to continue. Above the marshes rose mountains! Weird to see mountains against the bay. So this morning we prepare to depart through the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal (C&D) and leave our "home" to see what's up there. I hope we don't meet sea monsters or fall off the end of the earth.

Over the past several days....... We set Senara at anchor in Frog Mortar Creek (this wins for best name of body of water), and dinghied to shore to spend a few delightful days with friends at the Minkenger Resort, home of Bob & Kathy. Thanks guys! We especially enjoyed the Walters Museum, the Cat's Eye, and of course the Star Trek Bar and the floaty pool. This was the first time we had not slept aboard. K said she felt like she was cheating, but it felt good to cheat for a couple of nights. The four of us made a great sail from Frog Mortar Creek, around the Aberdeen Proving Grounds (just what are they trying to prove?) and up to Havre de Grace.

Bertha's Pub

Bertha's Pub is home to
the largest urinal on earth!

I had to stand way back
and use the "wide" function.
On the camera, of course - silly!

Havre de Grace ..... What a nice surprise. This marina wins for the friendliest community of boaters so far. Our shore-power breaker box was overloading and getting hot, so I had to take the wires off, take the box apart, clean the contacts and "common bar", strip wires, and re-connect. It works just great now, but I may as well have attempted abdominal surgery for all I know about electric boxes. The only way I was successful was through the advice, encouragement, and equipment of two semi-permanent boat residents here, plus the dockmaster, Gere, who is indeed a master of all trades and a true gentleman. But most of the credit has to go to Eric (Boatwire Inc.) who coached me over the phone - and kept answering the phone even though he knew it was me! That evening we were invited to happy hour aboard a gorgeous yacht, Irish Lady, and swapped boat stories. I am now loaded with advice and good anchorage suggestions from our new boat neighbor friends - thank you Bob & Jane!!

Onward to the Nawth Country! Bye Bay.... we'll see you again in a month or so.

Uh, that's the worlds largest urinal at Berthas. You may have seen the stickers EAT BERTHAS MUSSELS, etc. You should have gotten one for the boat! Pic is at Bertha's, too.

smooth sailing! Don't forget to sail fast to make it back for BP on Aug 31!
